Nationwide accounts hit by glitch

Nationwide Building Society customers have been hit by account problems.

Users of online banking and the mobile banking app were unable to access accounts on Sunday after scheduled maintenance overran.

A spokeswoman for the building society said people were still able to withdraw money from cash machines and make card payments.

She said the maintenance should have finished on Sunday morning but did not know why systems were not back online.

"We apologise to our customers and are working to resolve the situation," she said.

Customers took to social media to complain, with several people saying they could not use their payment cards.

However, the spokeswoman said the building society's IT department insisted that cash machines and cards were working normally.
