A man wanted in connection with the murder of a guest house landlady in Bridlington has been seen several times in South Yorkshire, said police.

John Heald, 53, has been missing since the body of Bei Carter was found on Friday at the Morayland Hotel on Marshall Street where he was staying.

Ms Carter, 49, was found dead at the hotel on Friday 18 July.

Mr Heald is also wanted on suspicion of a serious offence in Sheffield on 13 July.

Humberside Police said he had been spotted in Mexborough over the weekend, as well as in his home town of Rotherham in South Yorkshire.

'A threat'

He is thought to be sleeping rough or staying with friends.

Det Supt Mathew Hutchinson of Humberside Police said: "There have now been reported sightings of John Heald in Rotherham and Mexborough and we have officers on the ground here to locate him.

"He is a dangerous man and he needs to be found and arrested as a matter of urgency.

Police have warned the public not to approach him.

"I believe Heald poses a threat to the general public and therefore people should not approach him. If they do see him they should ring 999 immediately," he said.
