Normal service resumes after Nato

A ring of steel in Cardiff and Newport for the Nato summit has finally come down.

Security fences, military paraphernalia and more than 9,000 police officers have disappeared two days after the event ended.

Sixty world leaders, 4,000 delegates and 1,500 journalists attended the two-day summit.

The hotel's COO Ian Edwards said new guests would never know the summit had taken place.

"It's everyone pulling together, it's having a plan to make sure we have a planned de-rig," he said.

"We work in different areas and take the resort to pieces one bit at a time. It's really important, we only have two days to get this back to normal because we have huge clients coming in on Monday."

The clean up operation began at the Celtic Manor on Friday

He went on: "I think everyone involved in this event, from the Celtic Manor, the Welsh government, to the taxi drivers to the hoteliers - everyone involved has done a fantastic job and Nato has gone away and seen what a fantastic nation we are and actually what we can deliver."

Fencing has been pulled down along Cardiff's North Road, Colum Road, Duke Street, Boulevard de Nantes, Cowbridge Road East and Castle Street.

The event was a year in the planning but in just two days, the fighter jet has disappeared from the front of the hotel, more than 100 rooms have been converted from offices back into bedrooms and the tanks have gone from the golf course.

"It's a great buzz - that feeling around Wales that we have delivered. It's fantastic," Mr Edwards said.
